Heritage walk at Rajgir

Heritage Walks: Bihar has several important historical sites. It is crucial to enhance the attraction of these sites both to draw the local population and tourists.

In order to add value to these sites, BHDS has begun organizing heritage walks on some of these sites. The first heritage walk was organised at Patna on January 25, 2015 from Golghar to Martyr’s Memorial.

A few heritage walks were also conducted at Rajgir and Bodhgaya  between October 2015 and February 2016. The participants included teachers, students, professionals and people from other walks of life.

“Learning from these experiences, BHDS has started regular heritage walks at Vaishali, Patna, Rajgir and Bodhgaya on the first Sunday of every month. Different tracks in each of these sites, negotiable in about one and a half hours, have been carefully selected on the basis of pilot-walks on these places. Resource-persons, mainly historians and archaeologists, to lead these walks have also been identified.”

Exploration cum Awareness Programme in Villages:  BHDS has organised a series of tours by dedicated groups of historians and archaeologists in several villages of Bihar. In these outings, they explore antiquarian find-spots in the countryside and interact with the villagers regarding aspects of archaeological heritage. In this programme, several villages in the Patna-Gaya-Rajgir-Patna sector have been covered.
