Orientation and Training Courses in the Specialized Disciplines Relating to Heritage-BHDS seeks to intervene in such areas as are vital to reconstructing the heritage of Bihar, and yet are utterly neglected. One such field is building up a workforce in the field of heritage- studies. There is a serious dearth of resource persons in Bihar, who can read historical coins, inscriptions and manuscripts or who could be engaged in conserving historical buildings and antiquities. Thus BHDS has conducted a series of training programmes in the basic disciplines of heritage studies.
Starting from September 2012, several training programmes have been organized in core courses such as Numismatics, Epigraphy, Potsherds, Conservation of Antiquities and Conservation of Monuments. The participants have included young personnel from the Directorates of Archaeology and Museums, Research Institutes and Universities. Quality resource-persons from across the country have been invited to address the participants. Each course involves field-work in which the participants have practical demonstration of the skills they are learning and they also try their hands at it.
